mass customized learning: a glimpse into the k-6 experience

Central York School District's K-6 schools are customizing the learning experience for our students. Our faculty, staff and administrators want students to engage with learning, connect with classmates and teachers, and feel inspired to succeed socially, emotionally and academically throughout their Central Experience.

What does this look like in our K-6 classrooms? Take a few minutes and see for yourselves how our teachers and schools are customizing learning at the K-6 level:

Mass Customized Learning: Grades 7-12.

Whether it's self-paced learning or joining a student-run business, or participating in the High School's, "Apollo" Program, our secondary students have more voice and choice when it comes to their education than ever before.

Our faculty, staff and administrators work to provide learners in Grades 7-12 with a Central Experience that helps them succeed socially, emotionally and academically and that prepares them for post-secondary success.

Middle School students will be dismissed at 2:46 and K-6 students will be dismissed at 3:335PM like a normal school day dismissal.

All faculty & staff, including 12-month staff, should observe the delay.

important potential changes to schedules for friday, 1.18

Central York School District has a Teacher In-Service Half-Day with early dismissal for students planned for tomorrow, January 18, 2019.

If the District has to delay the start of school by two hours due to weather/travel conditions, the early dismissal will be cancelled for Grades K-8.

The High School will still hold finals and dismiss early, but at 1:15PM.

Please see the specific details, below.

    • Finals will be held as planned.

    • Lunches will not be served. Students who feel they may need it should bring a snack with them to school tomorrow. As always, bagged lunches are available for students who need to take a lunch with them at dismissal.

  • Central York Middle School and All K-6 Schools Will Delay Two Hours & Dismiss at Same Time as a Normal School Day (2:46PM for CYMS and 3:35PM for K-6 Schools).
    • Students will not be dismissed early as originally planned on the school calendar.

    • Lunches will be provided as on a normal school day.

We will communicate any scheduled changes to all families via phone, Skyward, the District website and social media (Facebook/Twitter).

Update on Flexible Instructional Days

The state Department of Education has extended Central York School District’s request to provide “Flexible Instructional Days” to our learners this school year. This means that on days when situations like winter weather or a building emergency require us to close our schools, we can provide instruction to our students at home rather than in the classroom (think “Cyber Snow Day.”) The state will count this as a full day of school and we will not have to make it up during the school year.

We are prepared for and planning to use these days during the 2018-2019 school year.  If winter weather forces a closure tomorrow, Friday, January 18, we will not be using a FID at that time.

Please stay tuned for additional communication about using a FID in the event that winter weather or an emergency forces us to close schools unexpectedly.
